A statement issued by Edward Legard following the result of the General Election in Darlington:

Thank you to everyone who supported me on Thursday 6th May, and to the many of you who have helped over the last three years. Thanks to you, the Conservative vote in Darlington has increased by over 3,000. We got a huge swing of 9.14%

I am sorry I didn’t succeed in my bid to become your MP and give you the voice I think local people so badly need in a Conservative Government. Congratulations to my opponent, Jenny Chapman who was elected as the MP for Darlington.In my time as your Conservative Candidate I have done my best to make a difference for local people. I hope I have succeeded
